RetroIRC
Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 10, 2026

RetroIRC may look like 1999, but we treat your data like it's the present day. Here's what we collect, why, and what you can do about it — in plain language.

WHAT WE COLLECT

  • Account info: your email address and username when you register. Guests can chat without an account — we collect less from you.
  • Content you create: chat messages, direct messages, profile details, and guestbook entries.
  • Usage data: basic logs like when you sign in, which rooms you visit, and high scores in the arcade.

HOW WE USE IT

We use your data to run the service: deliver your messages in real time, show your profile and leaderboard rank, process subscriptions, keep the community safe through moderation, and fix bugs. We do not sell your personal data. Ever. Not even for a really cool dial-up modem.

COOKIES & LOCALSTORAGE

We use cookies and your browser's localStorage to keep you signed in and to remember preferences like your theme, CRT effects, and sound settings. No third-party advertising trackers — this isn't that kind of 90s website.

THIRD PARTIES

  • Supabase — handles authentication and stores our database (accounts, messages, profiles).
  • Stripe — processes subscription payments. Your card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store them.
  • Vercel — hosts the site and may collect standard server logs (like IP addresses) to keep things running.

DATA RETENTION & DELETION

We keep your data while your account is active. Want out? Delete your account from your profile settings, or contact us and we'll remove your personal data within a reasonable time. Some content (like messages quoted by other users) may persist in anonymized form, and we may retain limited records where required for legal or moderation reasons.

CHILDREN UNDER 13

RetroIRC is for users aged 13 and up. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If we learn we have, we'll delete it — and if you believe a child under 13 is using the service, please contact us.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, for significant changes, post a notice on the site (probably with a blinking banner — you'll see it).
